Emery C. Martin, Emissary to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, presented at Hunter College’s Electronic Social Club, on November 15th, 2007. Martin presented general information about the group along with some of the technology employed by the Neighborhood Network Watch. He also presented the preliminary NYC Chapter’s Fall 2007 Findings. The presentation was brief but thoroughly conveyed the ideals and the work of the Neighborhood Network Watch.
One audience member asked about what type of public networks he meant when we talk about them. Emissary Martin, went on to clarify that the Neighborhood Network Watch investigates both cost free public networks as well as pay for use networks, such as Starbucks. He assured the audience member posing the question that these pay for use networks, “…definitely do not escape our radar.” Many individuals attending the event showed interest in the group and its mission to safeguard the community’s networks.
